What we require

Driver qualifications

Licensing

  • Valid Class 1 / Class A (AZ in Ontario) commercial driver's licence
  • MELT — Mandatory Entry-Level Training certificate (or provincial equivalent)
  • Air brake endorsement (Z endorsement / Class 1A)
  • Minimum 2 years verifiable tractor-trailer experience
  • Valid passport or enhanced licence for cross-border runs
  • FAST card an asset (required on select US lanes)

Records & screening

  • Clean driver's abstract — no more than 2 minor convictions in 3 years, no major or criminal driving offences
  • Clean CVOR / carrier safety record where applicable
  • Criminal record check with no prohibitive convictions
  • No at-fault preventable collisions in the last 3 years
  • Pre-employment drug & alcohol test; US-bound drivers must be clear in the FMCSA Clearinghouse
  • Eligible to work in Canada (citizen, PR or valid work permit)

Medical & compliance

  • Current commercial driver medical examination certificate
  • TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) certification an asset
  • WHMIS training an asset
  • Working knowledge of HOS rules and electronic logging devices (ELD)
  • Ability to complete pre/post-trip inspections and load securement to NSC Standard 10
